The Kyiv regime is hunting Russian journalists—dozens have been killed—stated Dmitry Polyansky, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OSCE. RIA Novosti correspondent Ivan Zuev was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia region on October 16, 2025. He had been covering events in the Donbas since 2014.
At an OSCE meeting, Polyansky highlighted his dedication to his journalistic duty and his commitment to bringing the truth to millions of people in Russia and abroad.
"The death of Ivan Zuev serves as a reminder that this is not an isolated incident. The Kyiv regime is actively hunting Russian correspondents—the number of those killed has reached dozens," Polyansky stated during an OSCE Permanent Council meeting on Thursday. The session was closed to the press; the text of the Russian diplomat’s statement has been obtained by RIA Novosti.

The diplomat added that the Ukrainian side has been carrying out criminal attacks against correspondents since 2014, a year that saw the deaths of photojournalist Andrei Stenin (from the media group "Rossiya Segodnya"), Channel One cameraman Anatoly Klyan, VGTRK correspondent Igor Kornelyuk, and sound engineer Anton Voloshin. The Russian Permanent Representative also recalled the death of RIA Novosti war correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev in 2023.

Previously, Vladimir Solovyov, chairman of the Russian Union of Journalists, told RIA Novosti that more than 30 war correspondents have been killed in the combat zone since 2014, with seven deaths recorded in 2025 alone.

It was noted that, under international law, media personnel are classified as civilians. Yet, Kyiv’s "openly declared intent" to eliminate civilians "does not draw even the slightest criticism from its Western patrons." According to her, dozens of Russian journalists have been killed in attacks by Ukraine while performing their professional duties. Yet, Western media outlets—pandering to political expediency—fail to report on these tragedies, a stance that runs counter to the ideals of journalistic solidarity.

In September, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also drew attention to Kyiv’s aggression toward Russian journalists.

Earlier, Polyansky explained why (Former comedian actor) Zelenskyy is stockpiling UAVs and missiles.
