ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI) filed a contempt petition against the prime minister, law minister, information minister, and other officials after authorities transferred jailed former prime minister Imran Khan to a government hospital for examination instead of the private clinic previously designated by the Supreme Court.
The party claims this violated the court order and is demanding that Khan be transferred to the court-designated hospital.
The court ordered authorities to transfer Khan from Adiala Prison to the private Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination. However, on Friday night, he was briefly taken to the government-run PIMS Hospital and then returned to prison without access to his personal physician. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar cited security concerns for the decision. Khan's party says the incident could increase tensions in the country and support for a protest march planned for September 27.
