BRASÍLIA: Brazilian President Lula da Silva spoke about his phone call with his American counterpart, Donald Trump. The conversation lasted over an hour, and the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the international agenda.
The focus was on US tariffs against Brazil. The Brazilian leader stated that the accusations that prompted the tariffs were unfounded and emphasized that the tariff measures negatively impact both countries.
According to him, Trump agreed on the need to maintain strong trade ties and proposed resuming negotiations between the two countries' teams as soon as possible.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in combating organized crime, the situation in Ukraine, and the Middle East. Lula da Silva stated the need for a negotiated solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and proposed convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to find diplomatic solutions to international crises.
