Prime Minister Narendra Modi inspected the Guard of Honor during a grand ceremony held at the Red Fort in New Delhi on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. Upon arrival at the Red Fort, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth, and the chiefs of the three armed forces welcomed the Prime Minister.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort complex here on August 15, amid patriotic sentiments and multi-layered security. The national song "Vande Mataram" was sung for the first time during the ceremony at the Red Fort. An army band played "Vande Mataram" for the occasion. The Prime Minister then hoisted the national flag, followed by the singing of the national anthem. The anthem was synchronized with a 21-gun salute by gunners of the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial) using indigenous 105mm light field guns.

The national flag was displayed at the center of the floral decorations on the ramparts, with "Vande Mataram" written around it in Hindi. Following the flag hoisting, the tricolor was given the "National Salute." Two MI-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force then showered flower petals at the venue, one of which hoisted the national flag and the other carried a flag bearing "Vande Mataram." Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Sanjay Seth, and Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh were present to receive Modi at the Red Fort.
Lieutenant General Rajesh Sethi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area, escorted the Prime Minister to the saluting ground. Modi then inspected the guard of honour. The Prime Minister delivered a 75-minute address, which was attended by various Union Ministers, including Amit Shah, Kiren Rijiju, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and other senior government and military officials.
However, the Leaders of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, respectively, did not attend the ceremony for the second consecutive year. The Indian Army was the coordinating force for the Independence Day celebrations this year. At the conclusion of Modi's speech, a large number of National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and Mai Bharat volunteers sang 'Vande Mataram', followed by the singing of the national anthem.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the grand event celebrated 150 years of the enduring legacy of "Vande Mataram" and the energy, aspirations, and significant contribution of the "youth power" in furthering India's journey towards a developed India by 2047.
The invitation cards for the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort prominently featured the newly constructed Seva Tirtha complex, which houses the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the National Security Council Secretariat, and the Cabinet Secretariat. The invitation cards also featured a "Dharma Chakra," symbolizing the "eternal movement of righteous duty and continuous selfless work."
