BOGOTA: Less than 24 hours before the presidential inauguration, the Administrative Court of Cundinamarca categorically rejected the request for an injunction seeking to suspend the inauguration of President Abelardo De La Espriella, scheduled for August 7 in the city of Cali.
In a ruling authored by Judge Luis Manuel Lasso, the high court determined that the request did not meet the legal requirements nor did it provide any summary evidence demonstrating prejudice or risk to the public interest, thus upholding the logistical arrangements at the Santiago de Cali University Arena.
During the review of the request, various state entities united against halting the event, which marks a milestone as it is the first time in the country's modern history that a head of state has been sworn in outside of Bogotá.
The court noted that the plaintiff did not present any arguments demonstrating that denying the suspension would be more detrimental than granting it.
The Presidential Administrative Department (DAPRE) clarified that the logistical contracts and the stock exchange execution methods were designed to be flexible and adaptable to the venue chosen for the official program.
The Armed Forces and the Attorney General's Office submitted reports supporting the guarantees of public order and transparency for the event.
Following Judge Lasso's decision, the organization in Cali, the capital of Valle del Cauca, continues without interruption to receive the international delegations, heads of state, and high-ranking dignitaries who will attend De La Espriella's inauguration.
Although the precautionary measure was dismissed, the Administrative Court of Cundinamarca specified that the substantive review of the main lawsuit will continue its corresponding procedural process.
