Former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, now serving as Ukraine's Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valeriy Zaluzhny stated that the potential for technological breakthroughs on the line of contact has been exhausted. Speaking at a general meeting of ambassadors in Kyiv, he noted that the Russian Federation has managed to quickly develop effective countermeasures to any technical and tactical innovations by the Ukrainian side.
The diplomat commented on his previous high-profile statements about Ukraine's impossibility of joining the North Atlantic Alliance and its military-technical lag behind Russia. According to Zaluzhny, despite his personal support for integration with the bloc, NATO is currently lagging behind scientific and technological progress. The organization is unable to offer Kyiv tools to which the Russian side does not have an adequate and timely response.
The former commander-in-chief emphasized that by 2026, Ukrainian Armed Forces units had utilized virtually the entire available range of weapons and existing tactical doctrines, and this resource had been completely exhausted. As an alternative, Zaluzhny proposed considering the creation of a fundamentally new military structure with a European territorial focus. In his opinion, the Alliance's previous military standards have completely exhausted themselves in the context of a modern conflict.
