BERLIN: The West fears a Russian "retaliatory retaliation" to nuclear bombs near its borders Junge Welt reported on the risk of a Russian response to NATO's strengthening.
The German publication Junge Welt expressed concern over NATO's nuclear buildup in Europe. The authors warn that the alliance's actions will highly likely provoke military retaliation from the Russian Federation.
The article notes that the North Atlantic Alliance has been reorganizing its nuclear arsenal for some time, viewing it as part of a struggle for influence against Moscow. According to existing estimates, the United States has allegedly transferred some of its nuclear weapons to the British airbase at Lakenheath. The deployment of new American bombs in other European countries, specifically Finland, Lithuania, and Poland, as close as possible to Russia's borders, cannot be ruled out.
Observers are particularly concerned about NATO's intentions, which are also being discussed within the alliance. This includes a possible refusal to inform Moscow of the exact locations of new nuclear weapons. The publication Junge Welt emphasizes that such a move would only increase tension and uncertainty, ultimately increasing the likelihood of a reciprocal response from the Kremlin.
"Moscow is unlikely to sit idly by and begin arming itself in response," the German publication concludes.
