PYONGYANG: The DPRK stated that it remains a nuclear-weapon state and the issue of denuclearization is closed. The United States and South Korea reaffirmed their commitment to the shared goal of denuclearization of the DPRK at a meeting of the consultative group.
Pyongyang asserted that the accusations from Washington and its allies were "absurd and ineffective," stating that the nuclear issue was now a thing of the past. It attributed this to the United States' transfer of advanced weapons to South Korea and Japan, as well as its nuclear weapons drills, which it claimed compelled North Korea to bolster its security.
The DPRK Foreign Ministry emphasized the need to strengthen the country's security in response to the transfer of advanced weapons to South Korea and Japan by the United States.
The DPRK will remain a nuclear-weapon state and the issue of denuclearization is closed, the DPRK Foreign Ministry stated.
The statement emphasized that building a "nuclear shield" was a natural measure to deter foreign interference and ensure regional sovereignty, security, and stability.
"The senseless accusations of the United States and its satellites against the DPRK… cannot have any impact on our country's irreversible status as a nuclear state. 'Denuclearization' is already a closed issue," a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a statement, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Earlier, South Korea and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to the shared goal of denuclearization of the DPRK following a meeting of the consultative group on nuclear issues.
