An accident that occurred this Sunday during a 'monster truck' event - a modified vehicle with giant wheels - in the Colombian city of Popayán, in the southwest of Bogotá, the country's capital, has resulted in at least three people dead, including a minor, and another 38 injured, according to the preliminary balance of the authorities.
"We are deeply hurt by the accident that occurred in the Boulevard Rose sector that leaves, preliminarily, more than 38 people injured and three dead," lamented the mayor of the city, Juan Carlos Muñoz Bravo, in a message published on his social networks, in which he remarked that an investigation has already been opened that, He has asked to be "rigorous" in order for the facts to be "clarified with total responsibility and transparency".
The event occurred on Rose Boulevard, a leisure and recreation sector of Popayán, capital of the department of Cauca (southwest), when, for unknown reasons, the person driving the vehicle in a stunt could not control it and went off the track, taking dozens of spectators with it, before colliding with a pole.
During the event, the driver of one of these large vehicles would have lost control and collided with a space in which several civilians were watching the show, according to emergency personnel deployed in the area.
In relation to the victims, the Ministry of Health has assured that it is prioritizing care, while pointing out that among the deceased is a minor.
