Russian government: Council of Ministers adds laser weapons to border guard forces

MOSCOW: The Russian government has included interceptor drones and laser weapons in the duty forces responsible for protecting Russia's state border in the airspace. This was announced in a government decree.

According to the document, the on-duty forces include radio engineering equipment and automated systems that are specifically designated for combat duty in the field of air defense. Their functions include conducting radar reconnaissance to detect air and space adversaries, as well as providing radar data on the situation in the air and space within the radar field.

The list also includes various means of air defense, such as missile, rocket-artillery, artillery, anti-aircraft cannon and anti-aircraft machine-gun systems (systems), as well as aviation equipment (aircraft and helicopters), the navy (ships and boats), electronic warfare equipment and specialized weapons, including drones- interceptors, radio frequency weapons systems, laser systems for countering unmanned aerial vehicles and unified launchers.

Earlier, a source in the Ministry of Defense reported that additional electronic warfare (EW) equipment and special weapons will be used to strengthen the protection of Russian Federation military vessels and ships from attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It is specified that the corresponding plan for strengthening protection has already been approved
