MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Orthodox Christians across the country on Easter. He emphasized that this great holiday fills the hearts of millions of people with joy and faith in the all-conquering power of life.

The Bright Resurrection of Christ, according to the head of state, awakens the triumph of love, kindness, and justice in the hearts of believers. Easter unites citizens around centuries-old ancestral traditions, moral values, and ideals, according to a greeting published by the Kremlin press service.

Putin noted that the Russian Orthodox Church and other Christian denominations also play an important role in preserving the country's historical and cultural heritage.

The president, along with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, attended the midnight Easter service at the Christ the Savior Cathedral. The service was celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'. According to tradition, a particle of the Holy Fire from Jerusalem was delivered to the cathedral.

Footage of the descent of the Holy Fire at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was released the day before. This year, it was delivered to Vnukovo Airport in Moscow with the support of the State Transport Leasing Company on the Valentina Tereshkova aircraft of the Roscosmos State Corporation.
