MOSCOW: Alexander Lukashenko on Russia-Belarus Unity Day, noting both countries' contributions to developing successful cooperation. "In the three decades since the signing of the Treaty on the Formation of the Community of Russia and Belarus, much has been accomplished to develop mutually beneficial integration ties," reads a telegram published on the Kremlin website.
According to the Russian leader, citizens of Russia and Belarus have equal rights and opportunities within the Union State. Moscow and Minsk are coordinating key macroeconomic, monetary, and social policy parameters, as well as coordinating joint actions in international affairs, defense, and security.
In February, a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State was held, at which a set of measures for the further development of integration in various areas was outlined. Putin expressed confidence that the consistent implementation of these steps fully meets the interests of the peoples of both countries.
Previously, the Russian head of state has repeatedly emphasized that close interstate relations with Belarus cannot be replaced by anything else.
