The US operation in the Middle East, in cooperation with Israel, against Iran is not a war. This was stated by White House President Donald Trump. "If it's a military operation, I don't need any approval. If it's a war, I need Congressional approval. That's why I call it a military operation," the US President stated. Also, at a charity dinner for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), Trump noted that the word "war" connotes "not a very good thing." However, in his statements, the president also used other language, characterizing the situation in Iran as "military annihilation."

Earlier, US President Donald Trump confirmed the start of joint military action with Israel against Iran as part of Operation Lion's Roar, citing the need to protect the American people and prevent the development of Iran's nuclear and missile programs. Following Operation Midnight Hammer in 2025, the US warned Iran against resuming its efforts to develop nuclear weapons, but Tehran rejected any suggestions that it abandon its ambitions.
