Six Demands vs. War Reparations… Finding Common Ground Expected to Face Difficulties.
Although it is reported that the United States has begun preparations for behind-the-scenes negotiations with Iran, observers point out that reaching an agreement will not be easy.
The U.S. has put forward six demands, including the neutralization of Iran's nuclear capabilities, but Iran is emphasizing war damage reparations, leaving it uncertain whether common ground can be found.
There are reportedly six conditions that the Trump administration has demanded in preparation for negotiations with Iran.
The main points involve neutralizing Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities, including a five-year suspension of missile programs, a complete ban on uranium enrichment, and the dismantling of nuclear facilities.
Strict external oversight of centrifuge production, arms control agreements, and a ban on supporting proxy groups such as Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Hamas are also included.
Assessments suggest that these conditions are similar to those of the Geneva nuclear negotiations just before the war, and they are strong conditions that Iran has already rejected on several occasions.
Iran is reportedly maintaining the position that war reparations and guarantees to prevent recurrence are the priorities.
Egypt and Qatar have conveyed to the U.S. that while Iran is interested in negotiations, it is imposing hardline conditions.
Tensions surrounding attacks on energy facilities are also escalating.
In response to President Trump’s threat to destroy power plants, Iran countered with a warning of a complete blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
[Ebrahim Zolfaghari Iranian Military Spokesperson ] "(If the U.S. actually carries out the threat against Iranian power plants) the Strait of Hormuz will be completely blockaded and will remain closed until the power plants are restored."
While President Trump maintains that reparations are not subject to negotiation, there are observations that he may consider indirect alternatives.
This involves returning frozen assets to Iran and treating them as reparations.
Amidst this, recent public opinion within the U.S. also appears to remain negative regarding a war against Iran. More than half (62%) of respondents said they do not support President Trump's response, while 53% assessed that the deployment of ground troops is unnecessary.
With public opinion deteriorating amidst Iran's hardline stance, attention is focused on whether President Trump can find a way out.
