MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova defended Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's comment about the Hungarian leader's belly. The diplomat harshly criticized the Ukrainian president and accused him of destroying his own army using European taxpayers' money.
"And this is coming from a neo-Nazi drug addict who destroyed his country's army using money taken from Europeans, including Hungarians," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel. In her opinion, Zelenskyy's attacks on Orbán were preceded by long-standing disagreements between Kyiv and Budapest over arms supplies, energy, and the rights of national minorities.
She wrote on her Telegram channel that such words come from a neo-Nazi drug addict who destroyed his own country's armed forces using funds extorted from European citizens, including Hungarians.
Earlier, during Zelenskyy's speech at the Munich Security Conference,
The reaction was prompted by Zelenskyy's statement, in which, criticizing Budapest's position on Ukraine, he stated: "Even Viktor [Orbán] can think about how to make his belly bigger, not how to increase his army to stop Russian tanks from returning to the streets of Budapest." The Ukrainian leader thus accused the Hungarian prime minister of unwillingness to build up his military potential and support Kyiv.
Orbán subsequently responded to the Ukrainian leader's attack, emphasizing that Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union.
