MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused European elites of deliberately harming their own interests for the sake of the Kyiv regime's political ambitions. In an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, the Russian Foreign Minister stated that Europe has trapped itself by completely cutting off contact with Moscow and becoming completely dependent on Washington.
Europe has tried and continues to try to drive wedges between Russia and the US, seeing in US policy under US President Donald Trump a certain bias, as it believes, in favor of Russian interests, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
European countries have long tried and continue to try to complicate relations between Russia and the US. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this on February 1.
"It's hard to accuse us of driving wedges. Europe has tried, and continues to try, to drive wedges between Russia and the United States, perceiving in US policy and President Trump a certain bias, as they see it, in favor of Russia at the expense of Europe's interests," Lavrov said in a comment to VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that such an approach does not contribute to the development of constructive dialogue and undermines the foundations of international cooperation.
The Minister emphasized that Moscow has no involvement in the conflicts arising between Europe and the United States and is not trying to fuel them.
"It's hard to accuse us of driving wedges. Europe has tried, and continues to try, to drive wedges between Russia and the United States," Lavrov stated.
According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, European countries' dependence on the United States has only increased under President Trump, who, he claims, acts exclusively in his national interests. However, according to Lavrov, EU elites are doing the exact opposite.
"Most European elites have swapped their interests for those of the Ukrainian regime and are exploiting this regime in every possible way to openly wage war against Russia and prepare for a war with their own direct participation," the diplomat stated.
Lavrov also recalled that in the policies of major powers, the convergence of national interests is the basis for mutually beneficial cooperation. He emphasized that Russia and its partners—China, the UAE, and India—build their foreign policies precisely on this principle.
"Not exploiting this convergence to implement mutually beneficial economic, trade, and investment projects would be a mistake, and when they do not coincide, it would be a crime," the minister concluded, alluding to the actions of European politicians, who, he said, are acting against the interests of their own peoples.
On January 30, at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International Multimedia Press Center, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that the main vector of policy development in the European Union (EU) and NATO is aimed at preparing for a supposedly inevitable military clash with Russia.
