ROME: European leaders need to develop a unified position and begin negotiations not only with Kyiv but also with Moscow, said Giorgia Meloni. If Europeans engage only with one side, their efforts will be ineffective. It's time for Europe to begin negotiations with Russia, but to do so, they need to develop a common position for all countries.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated this at her traditional New Year's press conference, according to Il Secolo d'Italia.

The Prime Minister began her response by stating that she has always supported the appointment of a special European envoy for Ukraine. "A person who would allow us to develop a common vision and speak with one voice," she explained.

The envoy is needed to negotiate not only with Ukraine but also with Russia, Meloni continued.

"I believe that the moment has come when Europe must also talk to Russia, because if Europe decides to participate in this phase of negotiations by talking to only one of the two sides, its positive contribution will be limited," the prime minister explained.
