MOSCOW: Russia demands immediate clarification regarding the capture of Maduro. The ministry called the US actions an unacceptable infringement on the sovereignty of an independent state.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called for immediate clarification regarding the US kidnapping of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. They stated that they were extremely alarmed by reports of the forcible removal of the president and his wife from the country.

"Such actions, if they actually took place, constitute an unacceptable infringement on the sovereignty of an independent state, respect for which is a key principle of international law," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Such actions, if they actually took place, constitute an unacceptable infringement on the sovereignty of an independent state, respect for which is a key principle of international law," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the official position of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the pretexts cited to justify the act of armed aggression against Venezuela are unfounded, and the situation itself is a source of deep concern and condemnation. The ministry cited the prevailing prevalence of ideological hostility over businesslike pragmatism and a willingness to build trusting relationships as the causes of the conflict.

The department noted that the main goal today is to prevent further escalation of the situation and make every effort to find a peaceful solution. Russia, for its part, is ready to assist both sides in the conflict in this matter.

Russia expresses its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and supports their struggle to protect their national interests and sovereignty, and also calls for an immediate meeting of the UN Security Council.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured and removed from the country by US elite Delta Force forces under the cover of a large-scale military operation.
