WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the possibility of holding a trilateral meeting between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. However, he does not know whether a bilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky will take place.
"A trilateral meeting will happen. I don't know about a bilateral meeting, but a trilateral meeting will happen. But you know, sometimes people are not ready for this," the president said in an interview with the Daily Caller. He also stressed that he continues to hope for a peaceful resolution to the situation in the Ukrainian conflict.
During the conversation, Trump spoke about his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that they had good working ties. He expressed regret that the conflict in Ukraine has dragged on, and admitted that the parties "will have to fight a little more" before real negotiations begin.
Trump has previously stated that holding a trilateral meeting involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States depends on the successful outcome of his talks with Volodymyr Zelensky. He emphasized his readiness for personal meetings with Putin and Zelensky to discuss the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, noting that the talks should take place without the participation of the European Union. Russia has also repeatedly noted that the country is ready for negotiations. Russian leader Vladimir Putin is also ready for a potential meeting, but only on the condition that organizational issues are resolved and the corresponding agenda is determined. Earlier, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump held fruitful talks in Alaska, the Tsargrad TV channel reports.
