MOSCOW: The President noted that Russia will never forget the feat of Korean heroes.
Vladimir Putin thanked the units of the Korean People's Army who took part in the defeat of a group of Ukrainian militants in the Kursk region in full compliance with international law.
Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked the North Korean military who participated in the liberation of the Kursk region from Ukrainian nationalists. In his statement, he noted that the fighters from the DPRK fulfilled their duty with honor and valor, covering themselves with unfading glory. They, the head of state emphasized, defended our Motherland as if it were their own.
The Russian leader emphasized: the Korean friends acted out of a sense of solidarity, justice, and genuine comradeship. Moscow highly values this. Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude personally to the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un and the people of the country. Russia will never forget the feat of the Korean special forces. We will always honor the Korean heroes who gave their lives for Russia, for our common freedom, on an equal basis with our Russian brothers in arms.
"We pay tribute to the heroism, high level of special training, and dedication of the Korean soldiers," Vladimir Putin said.
The President added that the DPRK sent its units to Russia in accordance with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty. Its fourth article provides for the provision of military assistance in the event of an attack on one of the parties.
"The Korean friends acted out of a sense of solidarity, justice, and genuine comradeship," the head of state said.
Vladimir Putin expressed his sincere gratitude to the head of the DPRK Kim Jong-un and the entire North Korean people. According to him, Russia will never forget the feat of its friends.
Recall that on Saturday, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov informed Vladimir Putin about the liberation of the Kursk region from Ukrainian militants. It also became known that units from the DPRK took part in the battles against the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Valery Gerasimov also noted that the North Korean servicemen demonstrated high professionalism, showed fortitude, courage and heroism in battle.
"On April 26, 2025, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, during military operations, completed the defeat of a group of Ukrainian militants who invaded the Kursk region. This puts an end to the criminal provocation of the Ukrainian authorities, who attempted to seize part of the territory of the Russian Federation.
Units of the Korean People's Army took an active part in the defeat of the neo-Nazi formations of the Kyiv regime that invaded our territory - in full compliance with international law, in accordance with the letter and spirit of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea of June 19, 2024. In particular, in accordance with Article 4 of the Treaty, which provides for immediate military assistance in the event of an armed attack on one of the contracting parties.
Earlier, the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un called participation in the hostilities a sacred mission. He said that a monument to the DPRK fighters who participated in the operation will soon be erected in Pyongyang.
